Q: The Chabad Community Center is part of the Chabad Movement. Could you tell us a little about that?
Mendel Mintz: The Chabad Movement goes all the way back to the 18th century, embracing the “Ahavet Yisrael” philosophy, which translates to “love for your fellow.”
Q: Who is welcome at the Chabad Jewish Community Center?
Mendel Mintz: Our membership is a mix of Jews that live in the Aspen Valley, with Jews of all backgrounds welcome. Our goal is to serve and educate, never to judge.
Q: Are most of your members Orthodox, Conservative or Reform?
Mendel Mintz: Anyone who attends one of our programs will find that most of our participants are all of the above.
Q: How are the activities of Chabad Community Center financed?
Mendel Mintz: Even though we’re part of a larger organization, each center is responsible for its own fundraising. All funds are raised locally and all monies stay local, keeping Chabad Community Center a true community organization.
Q: Are women welcome at Chabad Community Center?
Mendel Mintz: Absolutely! Chabad believes women are the cornerstone and Foundation of the Judaism. We work hard to combat old stereotypes of Jewish women and to uplift them within our organization.
Q: Are Shabbat Services held at your center?
Mendel Mintz: Yes, we offer Shabbat Services on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
Q: Do you offer services for beginners?
Mendel Mintz: The Friday night service is geared toward beginners. It begins at 7 p.m.
