Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD: A penile implant is surgically implanted beneath the skin, similar to a breast implant, only with different functionality. There are several types of implants, including malleable and inflatable. The malleable implant has a manual mechanism but the problem with that type of implant is that the penis doesn’t deflate. This can be uncomfortable for some patients. We recommend the inflatable implant, which operates using a pump inserted in the patient’s scrotum.

Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD: My minimally invasive procedure involves making a small incision above the patient’s penis, which leaves little to no scarring. Q: What kind of recovery time can a patient expect after surgery, Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD?
Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD: Many of our patients are able to resume normal sexual activity in as little as four to six weeks. This can, of course, vary from patient to patient, but it’s important to note that the patient’s pain is less than other implant procedures both during the operation and afterward.
Q: Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD, what do you do differently that makes the procedure so much less invasive?
Dr. Paul Edward Perito MD: By making a small incision, patients have a smaller number of stitches. My procedure is based on limited dissection, which helps reduces recovery time and pain for the patient. Unlike orthopedic implants, our patients resume normal life in 4 to 6 weeks.
